If I was counting I think Monteux would be in my top 10 all time conductors!

Eh? What do you mean? That LvB, being German/Austrian, should only be conducted by Germans/Austrians? That only conductors of that particular ethnicity have sufficient insight to do justice to the symphonies?

Oooh, so tempted by some of those CPE Bach/Spanyi discs, but still living in hope that BIS will put them all together in a big box one day.

Just wondering - if there's no-deal Brexit will it still be worthwhile buying from Europe?

I think the Lucas Debargue Scarlatti box may be the one mentioned on Record Review last weekend. Sounds good playing from a quick sample, but unfortunately on a piano! Not sure I could live with that.

Pedal-free, on a Bösendorfer - what's not to like? Much as Ivo Pogorelich and Clara Haskil in their different ways are embedded in my musical consciousness (but, alas, definitely not Mikhail Pletnev), I'm very much impressed with the contents of this box. I can always reach for Pierre Hantaï if I feel in the need for Scarlatti on the harpsichord but - and heresy it may be - I rather prefer Scarlatti on the piano. I have a vivid memory of Martha Argerich playing one of the sonatas as an encore on a Steinway on which she had just performed Ravel and, big piano or not, it was appropriately scaled-down and, simply, sublime. So, in short, I'm sure that you could indeed live with M. Debargue, piano or not.

I think that's a tad dismissive of a great musician. Anyone would probably enjoy a Monteux performance of anything.
