I used to have these Berglund Sibelius symphony recordings, but I think they were lost due to a move. The box at under £8 seems good value - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sibelius-Sy...4&sr=8-1-fkmr0 I'm tempted to order this as a replacement.

I used to have a fair bit on LP (Debussy, Ravel, in Ace of Diamonds box sets) but there is not much CD duplication for me (Martin, the Ravel operas) so this is indeed a bargain!

No: the only P&Ms I have are Boulez (big box) and a rather odd 1995 Ermitage reissue (perhaps as a cover for a magazine in Italy.....can't remember) of the Baudo:

The Presto listing is confusing: it's there twice but looks like the same version. Is the Danco version one of the two?

I recently acquired the Berglund Icon box (highly recommended) and it includes a Helsinki Tapiola (presumably the one in this box). It’s VERY fast: about 15 mins and 2 mins swifter than the Philharmonia equivalent also in the Icon box.

Just looked to see if there is a lot of overlap between the Berglund Icon box, and the Sibelius box which I mentioned. Not too much overlap. Apart from the Kullervo symphony, there are no Sibelius symphonies in the Icon box, and I'm guessing that some of the Sibelius in the Icon collection (such as Kullervo) are with the Bournemouth orchestra - though nothing wrong with that.

You recommend the Icon box - so I'll watch out for it - but hopefully when it is on sale somewhere. What is particularly good in that box - or is it all good?

The Kullervo in the Warner Symphonies box is actually the same recording as in the Icon box. The Bournemouth Years label is misleading. I mentioned this here aound the time of the Icon box's release.

The two recordings are from 1952 (Danco) and 1964 (Spoorenberg).

The above arrived today. It's good to have the Blu-ray but why didn't a company like Decca/DG/Universal (or whatever they are calling themselves today) get someone with at least a basic grasp of the musical structure of the 3rd Symphony to work out that when compiling the CDs, it would make more musical sense to place the extract from the 10th before Part 1 of the 3rd than to split the 3rd Symphony between the 5th and 6th movements and then follow the end of the 3rd with that extract from the 10th. Oh, and they also add the specious "Titan" soubriquet to the 1st Symphony.
