I am quite tempted to give that set by Annerose Schmidt and the Dresdener Philharmonie at try.

During my recent Dresden trips I have been trying to learn something about life in the DDR. Unlike the big cities Berlin and Munich many people of my own age in Dresden don't speak English as it was forbidden to be taught in East German schools during that era. Of course it is different now especially in the cities as all young people seem to want to speak English.
I am afraid I understood that the Cleveland/Uchida was going no further .

I don’t think Masur does Mozart at all, now.

"Annerose Schmidt, one of the best known women pianists on the international scene", certainly had a forceful technique. Makes a change to hear the 'Coronation' hammered out quite to this degree. There again I am far more used to the use of original instruments, or modern faithful copies of such, in these concertos. I don't actually find AS's playing unpleasant, though idiomatic is not the word that comes to mind in connection with her approach. Always room or something a bit different, I suppose.

            Hiya Barbirollians,

You're not wrong. On reflection I don't think it was intended to be a complete Mozart Piano Concertos cycle from Dame Mitsuko Uchida. My memory must be going! Of course Uchida's last album directing the Cleveland Orchestra released in 2106 was the fifth and final in the series of her Mozart live recordings from Severance Hall.

I appear to have the majority of the recordings. Good bargain for those that don't though.

Those piano concertos were very nearly all the Mozart he ever recorded, as far as I can find.

Thank you for this. Trying to decide whether the duplication factor makes it not worth buying, and not helped by a large number of short sides.

Except that assumes that Eccliastes is "true". We have no way of knowing. Perhaps your first sentence could be correct, after all!

Maybe Kurt is conducting Mozart in a parallel universe.

That's more like it. Not quite as many duplicates.

If you have access to the French version of Qobuz you can download all of Reiner’s RCA recordings (63 CDs worth) for 49€. It looks as if they have the contents of the original LPs, so some short ‘CDs’. It’s also available on the UK site, but at a higher price...

Écoutez en illimité ou téléchargez Fritz Reiner - The Complete Chicago Symphony Recordings on RCA de Fritz Reiner en qualité Hi-Res sur Qobuz. Abonnement à partir de 12,49€/mois.
