Originally posted by Bryn View PostI have not had a chance to listen yet, but the earlier "Crystal Collection" CD issue was shown as ADD and dated 1988. The "gold edition" issue is also ADD and seems to date from 2002. though the copyright notice is dated 1989 (though that may refer to the compilation rather than the re-mastering). There's lots of detail regarding the equipment and software used by Stanislav Sykora at SR Studio Prague:
DAW: SADIE 24-96 (24 bit audio resolution)
Digital Audio Effector: SONY SDP-1000
Lexicon 480L - Digital Effect System
Digital D-A Converter dCS 900
CEDAR - restoration system.
All tracks timings bar one, and the total time are greater in the "gold edition" transfer than in the earlier "Crystal Collection" CD.
I hope to listen some time on Monday. I will have a look at some of its audio properties too.
Here's a 'fingerprint' of the "Crystal Collection" transfer of the organ postlude, followed by the "gold edition" offering. Both the peak level and the average RMS value for the latter are 0.2dB higher, so not much change in the overall dynamic range. However, the reduction in tape hiss means that the effective dynamic range is increased, as the graphics indicate:

I was looking for food processor bowl covers, honest!
Food processor replacements duly arrived too, though note that the cunning parts people ONLY supply the lid, not the pusher bits which any sane person
not in the parts supply business might have expected to be included. What a rip off - though glad that these people - http://www.partmaster.co.uk/cgi-bin/...FUQe4QoduHhnrg - were able to help at all, since the manufacturer, Kenwood, were useless.

I had this message from them a day or two ago. At least they haven't cancelled the order - yet!
