Not quite as much of steal as Gilels (and perhaps the performances aren't as magical) but

and obtainable via marketplace for a bit less

Good starter set, but quite a lot of duplication for anyone who already has some Mahler CDs. I assume Tennstedt in symphony 8.

                ....
Remarkable it's a 58 CD-set. Brahms' complete output is easily put on around 46 CDs, as both the DGG (1997) as well a the earlier Brilliant complete Brahms (2008) show

                  Perhaps they're slow performances.

I didn't want the whole lot but got the songs. Excellent set.

The design of the box is such that it is difficult to get the mega-booklet out - you have to grip the edge of the booklet with the tips of your fingernails. The information about the pieces is sometimes presented in strange way in the booklet, e.g. with concertos sometimes the conductor is given great prominence and the pianist is given somewhere in the text in a small typeface. Also rather odd is that the backs of the CD envelopes show the pieces and the tracks, but not the conductor or soloist.

Still, that doesn't detract from the music.

Those songs are excellent indeed (same league as the DFD/Norman -DGG set IMO, and hardly less than the [male songs only] DFD - EMI one.)
The Brilliant choral works are in the same league.

Thanks for this, Roehre - I've been hovering over this set for a long time. So - now just need the debit card and to invent an excuse to the bank manager.

                            - quite the most joyful recording(s) I bought last year. (I haven' forgotten the I owe ts for steering me in its direction! )

Do you and fhg really like that stuff? Agree it's cheap at 69p though. I've only played the first 20 minutes or so.
