Good prices on the Amazon MP for a couple of the Sony Bruno Walter boxes:

    Brahms (5CDs) for 7.50 + p&p

    Mahler (7CDs) for £7.51 + p&p

This seems the case with quite a few of these Sony boxes at present.

Very tempting, but alas I have already spent way too much on music this month

i'm almost certain that with box sets you are allowed to amortise the cost.

I explained this to Mrs TS last month.
        And the previous month
        And.....

I tend to accrue the costs, then when they get above £500, I capitalise them, where they don't show up so obviously against big ticket capital expenditure. I'm a a very creative accountant

Very, very tempting. Even with £1.75 p&p it's still a bargain. I will resist and regret in due course!

Not a small amount of cash but you certainly get a lot of stuff for your money and a nice retro look to it ... But what's the music like? Bargain?

It's excellent. Often cheaper though so no rush.

Is this a bargain? Wagner for around £33 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...&pf_rd_i=typ01 40 CDs from Sony.

I've probably more than enough Wagner which I don't listen to, but others may know whether this box is worthwhile.

I picked this up for only thirteen quid last autumn. So, not really a bargain by 'current' standards.

OK - so not a bargain in comparison with your purchase, but is it actually any good anyway?

It's a bit of a mixed bag, like these things tend to be - and suffers from the fact that Columbia (the main source of the recordings) didn't record much Wagner. So, we get the Eurodisc Ring, a fairly obscure (but not bad) live Meistersinger, an excellent Lohengrin from Leinsdorf and a mono radio relay of Parsifal from Karajan in Vienna. The rest is made up of bleeding chunks and some archive recordings (excellent recital discs from Melchior and Traubel). Probably the weakest of the three Wagner boxes that came out in 2012, but enjoyable, nontheless.
