That's the one which, if ripping for a portable device, hard disc, etc. you need to resolve the pre-emphasis.
Bryn,
I have just ordered this (thanks once again Hafod!) and will eventually put it onto my hard disk. I'm not sure what you mean by "resolve the pre-emphasis", though - could you elaborate, presuming (correctly) that I am completely clueless about such matters?

Thanks!
Some CDs have analogue pre-emphasis (mostly Japanese ones) which a good CD player will notice and correct on playback. Not all ripping software does this, so Bryn is suggesting that special measures may be needed.

Thanks Dave - I use EAC, but don't recall seeing any option for this type of correction, how do I go about correcting for this (I don't even know what pre-emphasis is...)?

Pre-emphasis will make the music sound funny if not corrected. IIRC it will make the treble and higher notes sound tinny. The point of it is that it reduces background noise if the correct de-emphasis is applied.
The Vegh Beethoven String Quartets certainly used to you pre-emphasis but it is always possible that the current release might have been remastered to remove it.
I used SOX to remove the pre-emphasis when I ripped the discs, though that meant the process was more complicated that normal: rip to wave -> use SOX to remove pre-emphasis -> convert to FLAC -> tag with mp3tag. There are probably easier ways of doing it!
It is claimed in that posting that iTunes does the correct de-emphasis. I don't know if fhis is true. There were a few versions of iTunes which made a complete mess of CDs with pre-emphasis years ago, though it's been OK for some while now.
Any wise thoughts where else to go for Ireland Piano music, PJ?
The Parkin set also available at around £12.
Sorry, I missed your post!
You've found the Parkin on Lyrita, which is excellent and sounds fine, too. I have this set as well as the Rowlands and recommend it. The little I've heard of Lenehan and Bebbington suggest they're equally recommendable.

Thanks for the help Dave (and also to Johnb and PJPJ), when the set arrives I'll see if EAC says they have pre-emphasis and then try to follow Johnb's process (which looks very like the workflow described in the posting you linked above.

Some CD players have a light or indicator for CDs with pre-emphasis.
Apologies for the diversion above (but thanks to Dave2002 and others for enlightenment).
Back OT, not as spectacular in the bargain stakes as many recent suggestions, but still worth investigating: Europadisc have 30% off the whole Hyperion list until next Thursday. This includes very recent releases (I picked up Hamelin's Janacek/Schumann coupling).
