I see the price has now leapt up to 230 Euros, so I'm guessing the orders at the lower price will be cancelled.

Last night, I got a confirmation of order email and a discount e-coupon, with an estimated delivery date. If they cancel, I'm going to involve my MP.

I saved my time on this one, as I couldn't remember my amazon password and didn't get round to it. When I had a similar situation on the Spanish site, I received an email explaining that in Spain at least it would have been illegal to honour the low price as it was below the economic price. I'm not sure if this applies genrally through the EU.

              I'm going to complain.

Because they are French. And the French don't normally have difficulty in ignoring EU regulations.

Apart from the language that looks similar to one I received in Spanish. I wonder which laws in each country would be violated in each country if they were to honour the orders.

I don't think the excuses from UK sites hide behind any such laws.

C'mon though, we are sometimes chancers, hoping to get things for a lot less than they might be worth! Though at times "worth" mIght be very difficult to quantify.

The complete sacred cantatas of JS Bach are priceless.

Consolation prize for the non-appearance of the Harnoncourt/Leonhardt set:

Brilliant Classics 50CD set of Bach Cantatas for 21.97 euros.

The French certainly used to have, quite likely still have, national competition laws against selling goods at below cost. It looks like it's these laws (not EU ones NB) that they're worried about breaching. The point of them was I think to prevent big shops sending little ones out of business by predatory sub-cost pricing, simply because the big boys could stand the losses far longer than the little ones if they attempted to compete.

We in the UK saw no need for such restriction of 'proper' free market competition. Which probably explains why we have so few small shops these days

Free marketeers commonly fail to acknowledge that the necessary end of unchecked competition isn't any sort of consumer heaven, it's total monopoly - the triumph of the 'last man standing'. As witness what commonly happens to a town's petrol prices if there's only one supermarket with pumps, once all the small petrol stations have gone to the wall. Consumers are so-o-o surprised and disappointed. And of course powerless.

In fairness this is a very fine consolation prize! None of the operatic excesses of the Rilling and JEG versions. Ruth Holton is to my mind the perfect soprano for Bach's Sacred Cantatas.
