Must admit, I was thinking of The Barras.

A new DG 15cd box of Jochum conducting Beethoven, Brahms and Bruckner symphonies is listed as 'unavailable' on Am.uk, but on Am.it it is listed as due for release on 25 March and priced at €30.72!!
The Beethoven cycle is that previously issued on Original Masters and the Bruckner will of course be the cycle from '58-'68 with the BPO & BRSO, so for many that may mean duplication. I presume that the Brahms is the mono cycle from the '50s unless there is a stereo one which I have not encountered. I do not have the mono Brahms set but have just rectified such an unfortunate oversight for £6 delivered courtesy of a MP seller.
Correction: There are two Jochum Beethoven cycles on Original Masters - RCO and BPO/BRSO. The latter is in the new box.Last edited by hafod; 12-03-14, 15:21.

I've got all three sets already and strongly recommend snapping them up. I prefer Jochum's final Beethoven cycle (LSO) but there's some good stuff in the BRSO/BPO set and the Brahms and Bruckner are outstanding. The weakest link is (sadly) the Bruckner 8 (especially the slow movement) but this is made up for by excellent recordings of 7, 9 and (particularly) 5. I would encourage Jochum lovers to fill their collective boots....

A bargain I spotted last month on Amz France (and couldn't resist)
Vaughan Williams complete symphonies Previn/LSO "comme neuf" at 1.99€
I really did think it was a mistake, fully expecting an email to that effect, or that I'd end up with something completely different......
But no, it was exactly "wot it said in the tin"Last edited by visualnickmos; 12-03-14, 20:08.

Many were on CBS in the UK, or maybe the ones in this box were later recordings. I definitely would like to have some of Ormandy's recordings in a collection. Isn't there also a box with 20th Century music - Bartok etc., and maybe a symphony collection? Maybe there's a larger box with a bigger collection - as with the Bernstein and Walter sets. e set you have pointed out is available for about £15.50 in the UK from marketplace sellers offering UK distribution (i.e. not from Canada or the US) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-lis...&condition=new Perhaps HMRC wouldn't be interested in the cheapest suppliers based abroad, as the value of the set is probably under their threshold - though the savings are not great. Direct from Amazon its over £20, but with the AutoRip feature which some may find convenient.
Cloughie answered the bulk of your question admirably. I purchased the Ormandy "20th century" box and it's excellent and priced as cheaply per disc as the Tchaikovsky set.
I had a roommate for two years at University who owned many Ormandy Columbia (CBS) recordings. It seemed during those early 70s years that Ormandy was rerecording the same music for RCA. I worked in a retail record shop in those years and remember how awful the RCA vinyl was, and I never really investigated most of the RCA recordings. Ormandy and Philadelphia had a strong affiliation at my school and the rumor amongst the Music Students was that the Orchestra was trying to push him out, and that seemed to be the case when Muti came in. So hearing the RCA recordings at this juncture without all of those issues in the background, such as bad vinyl and orchestra Politics, is a treat.
