I bought what I thought was a bargain on a jumble stall the other weekend: Jascha Horenstein's Unicorn-Kanchana Mahler 3 with Norma Procter and the LSO on CDs. I still kick myself for getting rid of my LPs. The lady wanted £2 but I gave her £5 knowing that if it worked I had a bargain. Disc 1 works perfectly on all my CD players and computer. CD2 won't work on my computer and (despite looking pristine) has a swishing sound on both my CD players.

If there is some kind soul who could let me have a copy of Disc 2 I am very willing to copy anything from my collection in exchange. If you think you can help please contact me via a Private Message.

Just received an email from sendit.com saying "I am sorry to advise that we had a limited amount of stock available of Beethoven: The 9 Symphonies at the promotional price which has since sold out. We can confirm that payment has not been taken and you are free to re-order at the current price should you wish."

Ah well, it was worth a try!!

Me also. I must have anticipated this as I've just ordered over twenty quid's worth of stuff from Selections, including some really odd things. They've got a number of items at 99p (e.g Fedoseyev in Bruckner 4, and Armenian Sacred Music), plus Oistrakh and Zertsalova playing Bach sonatas for £1.99.

I bought this twofer a while ago for 99p (+ £2.95 postage). Worth investigating.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but a boxed set of the complete Wagner operas conducted by Barenboim is due to be released next month. Best price I can find is at Crotchet:

EMI are releasing a box of Klemperer's Mahler - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mahler-Symph...7469311&sr=1-1 and this is best price I can find. Not cheap as chips but less than £3 per cd.

My question is - is it worth it? I have heard the Das Lied and the Resurrection and was impressed, but there is so much other great Mahler out there (and in better sound).

I do hope this means that EMI finally release his Mozart operas as a box - his Cosi and Giovanni are brilliant and I would love to have his Figaro at less than the current Amazon Marketplace £130!!!

A lot of people think Klemperer/Mozart is a strange fit; his performances may not be idiomatic but I, for one, appreciate them for that very reason. Doubt if I'd buy a box set, though, as the only recordings I don't have are Cosi and Figaro, neither of which I like as works.

The Mahler release is annoying, as it seems to be the only way of getting hold of K's Mahler 7, long a highly-prized deletion. Unless it's available as a download.

This was exactly my thought, too, when I saw this reissue. I have all the others in the set so must decide whether or not to take the plunge for the 7th alone and give away the original issues. Decisions, decisions...

... thanks for the tip, martin_opera: I think I shall go for it...

On the other hand I don't think I cd stomach Klemperer in Mozart operas

Klemperer's Magic Flute is superb - much the best in my opinion and very light on its feet . Popp , Gedda, Janowitz,Berry and Frick with some very starry sopranos playing the three ladies .

It's a shame tthe Mahler set doesn't contain his Bav RSO Resirrection which is even beteer than the philharmonia versoon but is only abailable as a download

I agree much prefer the soloists in the BRSO version . There were rave reviews of his 1951 VSO performance on Testament and his 1951 live Holland Festival performance , moderate sound and all has the inestimable benefit of Ferrier in the Urlicht
