Thanks (yet again) for the steer Hafod - just ordered, delivery date quoted as 6th-15th March so a little while to wait for fulfilment of the bargain!

I hesitated for a few minutes as I already had vols 4-7 during which time a quick look at the second-hand prices for these showed that I should recoup much if not all of that outlay. When I came to order there was one left but my order went through. Now the wait to see if it is for real!
Those frustrated at the non-delivery of this apparent bargain offer might somewhat, if only marginally, console themselves with the inclusion in last night's TtN of the first item on disc 135 of the set, Sibelius's Pohjola's Daughter under the baton of Sir Colin Davis (2002). Recordings to be found in the set do quite often turn up on TtN.

Been at that price since yesterday and since mine has now been despatched I feel able to post.
Arrived this morning - £10.99 on the nail.
Now listed at £31.97 - 'usually dispatched within 6 to 12 days'.
I hope others who ordered are just as fortunate.

The Maurice Abravanel/Utah SO DVD-A of the Sibelius Symphonies are all available on this side of the pond for 99 cents per disc. I had purchased thetwo discs featuring 1/4 and 2/3 and now just splurged for the final disc containing 5/6/7. The Utah SO was clearly a second tier Orchestra when these recordings were made but Abravanel wa an excellent conductor and the sonics are wonderfully transparent.

Very tempting, but, IMHO, value surprisingly low from a purely commercial point of view as collectors loathe highlighting in booklets and, especially, "cut up slip-cases". Also, about 750hrs of listening, so, at an hour a day, more than 2 years!

Presumably re msg 3982. Re the 2 years listening 1: some people here seem to listen a great deal, and 2: also some (of us!) seem happy enough to buy a box, and then only listen to a few discs from it. The collection would only have to have a few wanted pieces to make it worthwhile. Be interesting to see what it goes for.

I think it likely that it will eventually go to someone who wants to listen to the music on the discs, rather than merely hoard them. The £50 p&p and lack of a return option might be putting many off.

Yes, I was referring to the ebay lot. Whilst there are many excellent titles amongst the collection, so many of these will be/have been reissued in bumper boxes/downloads for not a lot, the collection will have suffered from severe deflation as far as the price is concerned. The value is, of course, different.

Bryn is right that the £50 delivery charge + no return is a disincentive, as that covers the cash value of about half the collection.

My guess is that a dealer will acquire and then list separately.

I wonder who the reviewer was/is?

Recently a collection of approx 250 CDs (single as well as multiple sets) in excellent condition (from the description as well as seen from the multiple pictures) did some £425 + £15 p&p. That collection to be said from the late brother of the seller, the latter not interested in classical music at all.

a dealer might be less interested exactly because of the state of the multiple sets and of the booklets.
The latter's state means selling them abroad is a near impossibillity, shrinking the "market" to nearly exclusively these Isles only.

                          Interesting to follow this.

The opera collection up to £104, as I type. Got to be worth £250-350; we shall see.

Has this been noted - Spring clearout by Presto, with plenty of English music, including 2 sets with Beecham conducting
