There is also a more recent non-AMSIfied box of these recordings, topped up with the earlier concertos played by Haebler, Koopman, et al, but it costs nearly twice as much:
As it's a near homonym I guess I should know what AMSI-fication means/does but perhaps you could enlighten me please Bryn?

Reason: getting confused twixt me homo- and me syno-nyms
My listening for the week has been dominated by a 3 disc set from the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, in Piano Trios of Brahms, Mendelsohn and Dvorak Dumka.
These are on the vox Label but were recorded in the early 90s when Vox was making new recordings. Great sonic and better playing. The Brahms is revelatory.
Verdi - The Great Operas: 38cds from EMI now £10.99 at AmUK. The ASIN is B00A4AI17A
Been at that price since yesterday and since mine has now been despatched I feel able to post.

Seriously well spotted, Hafod! As I am Verdi-light on CD, ordered (and fingers crossed that it gets despatched).

Pity they haven't done the same with the Wagner box, which I let slip before its price rose to over £50. No point for me with the Verdi, as already in my collection - reasonable even at the price I paid - around £35.
Good luck to anyone buying this set - very good indeed at the low price just spotted. Just a few left, apparently - 6 at present - go for it if you want to hear Verdi's operas.

I first saw it yesterday morning and ordered. I had an email this morning to say it had been despatched so I decided it was safe for me to spread the word. As soon as something like this is posted obviously many orders go in quickly. The algorithm monitoring sales picks it up, recognises unusual activity, and either raises the price or withdraws the availability. There were 12 copies when I posted and it is now down to 4.

Still at the same price but now due in on Feb 28th - we shall see ?
AMSI is an artificial surround sound processing system developed by the Emil Berliner Studios and has a rather mixed reputation.
I had never heard of AMSI before reading this, but after googling it I see that the technology has been around for about a decade. What is your opinion of it, Bryn?

As I mentioned, it has had a mixed reception. I think it illustrative that the link to a message by 'Scarpia' given in the Emil Berliner Studios message on the good-music-guide link I included in message #3962 contains a further link to the Emil Berliner site. That link has not been maintained and there seems to be no mention of AMSI on that site. Perhaps they are rightly somewhat embarrassed by it and its progeny, AMSI II. Let's just say that like dynamic compression, I think it should be left to the customer to impose if they so wish, rather than Universal to lumber the listener with.
