I see others don't like it. Maybe it's because they missed out South Park.

Seriously, is it all bad? There could be some good things in there amongst the rest, though some of the Alfred Deller and Maurice Bevan may be beyond their sell by date.

Virtually the whole thing is on Spotify - http://open.spotify.com/track/2iXdOIJS6pwgBmVof4U8ou so no need to buy downloadable copies, unless one thinks that Spotify may pull the plug on the collection. Some of the items are as sickly as one might imagine, and others are a bit rough. Bach's Magnificat is on the rough side - somewhat dated in sound and style. It's not all bad though - http://open.spotify.com/track/4KeGdy135gctCg0ZQ9i0hu presumably with "deliciously" out of tune crumhorns. Actually the Nutcracker is not bad - some of the items have flair - e.g Spanish dance http://open.spotify.com/track/7s0rcmaDsmhTHy2lTxfFRd - maybe I just like the trumpeter!

I'm almost persuaded to go for it.
PS: An hour's listening on Spotify has largely dissuaded me.

The Klemperer Romantic Symphonies box - used like new - is back again at £3.75 from Marvelio in Amazon.uk marketplace. This time it is accompanied by the Beethoven Symphonies box - again, used like new - also at £3.75.

Still no sign of the Romantic Symphonies box I (and others) ordered yonks ago.

Linn are offering a free studio masters download every day up to Christmas. They are isolated tracks but I am interested to try and assess whether the higher quality is worth having. Tracks so far - And the Glory of the Lord from Messiah (Dunedin Consort), Oranges and Apples from In The Music, Symphonie Fantastique - IV. Marche au supplice (Ticciati). I am impressed so far.

I expected to find it even cheaper here - http://www.classicalmusicmobile.com/ but no. There are other reordings by Fricsay from CMM but not that one.

Thanks for pointing this recording out. Is it good? There are performances by Fricsay which I consider indispensable, but I don't know this one.

Dave, that Fidelio recording (though lacking spoken dialogue) is a classic of the gramophone. Definitely not to be missed. I'm not in the market myself as I already have it on both LP and CD.

Reginald Kell - The Complete American Decca Recordings ('Original Masters') 6cd set is available on Amazon for £7.06. However,the 'usually dispatched within 2 to 4 weeks' is not exactly encouraging.

I am listening to the Brilliant 3CD set of CPE Bach's Prussian and Wurttemburg sonatas from Pieter-Jan Belder, and very good it is, too....harpsichord and clavichord nicely recorded. A bargain for £8!
