I love this performance - it's the one that isn't on Chandos, but the other 1968 Goodall Mastersingers broadcast, with Connell Byrne as a capable substitute for Remedios. But there are moments of the purest magic here, not least in the Quintet. If I remember rightly, there's a bit of dislocation between the offstage trumpets and the orchestra at the start of the final scene - haven't listened to this actual download yet, but I know and cherish this broadcast - it shows Goodall at his absolute best, I think.Originally posted by Bryn View Post
