    Non Classical bargains.

Thought it might be worth having a separate thread for these.

    I'll start with:
    Graham Parker.
    5 Classic Albums

    about £8 delivered .

also his most recent effort, Mystery Glue just £2.99.

I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Those 5CD sets are a real bargain - also very economical on space for the shelf!

yup, I just also picked up the Heaven 17 set for under £10 which is even better than I expected. I only really knew the first album and the singles.
Tempted by the Graham Parker set, Cloughie? I'd have thought he would be your sort of thing ?

The Graham Parker set is in my basket while I hesitate over pulling the trigger. I had a compliant of his stuff on tape many years ago and, while I liked it, I didn't (quite) love it.

If you have a taste for GP, and don't have it already, I'd suggest " The Mona Lisa's Sister", which is a very fine album indeed.

great idea teamsaint, just what we need - more temptation to buy more CDs that we don’t need

i like graham parker and i saw him live a couple of times 79/80/81 (?). not sure he did five classic albums, though - think it was just a rumour.

re heaven 17, i only really know for p&p (was that the first one?) and the later singles.

Or there are downloads of course......

              anyway, Heaven 17.
P and P, great album, which we already knew.
Luxury Gap. very good, really enjoyed thie full album
How Men Are. Also pretty classy and interesting. Haven't got round to the other two albums yet.

Have never seen GP, never seen Camberley's finest live, but would certainly like to.

Can’t remember anything about them, not sure if I owned them or not - long time ago now ....

The couple of gigs I was at were superb - but would you want to see him live, now? Maybe I’m being short-sighted?

he's still very active, last album was pretty good from what I've heard of it.

He did a show at Shepherds Bush empire last year which I fancied but didn't get to.

Of course, would rather have seen him back in the old days like you did.....

Well I wasn’t showing off (this time), but it strikes me that one of the things about GP was how he was a pretty orthodox rock ’n’ roller in many ways, but delivered it all entirely congruously with the very post-punk ethos of the time - and for me, I can’t get my head 'round it being as vibrant, today.

I'd have thought that was exactly why he might get away with it now.
As you suggest, he very neatly managed his sound and image ( and I mean that in a good way) to fit with the times, whilst keeping the music to what he knew and understood.

And TBF, not many are as good as they were 40 years ago, although making interesting new records, which he certainly has done, helps.

Bit like Bill Nelson in that regard, though I don't think Bill plays live much these days.

Edit...although, of course, you could be right, and he might be a bit boring live nowadays.

                        Agreed.

I liked Bill Nelson. Probably still do, if I thought about it.

Shame that my antennae aren’t working anymore - I’m sure there are some great rock/pop artists around today. I just can’t spot them.

I try asking the youngsters at work, but they don't seem to come up with much. Perhaps they keep the cool stuff to themselves.

Anyway, sorry to hear about your antennae.
