I strongly second the advice to have a chat with Cyrus; some years back I acquired a Cyrus 6 CD which turned out to be a rather recalcitrant beast in a similar way to the OP's. However, after putting up with its idiosyncracies for rather longer than I should have as it turned out, I talked to them, it went back to the factory and the issue (a software glitch) was resolved. I cannot praise their after-sales care more highly.
I now have the CD8 SE2 and have not had a sniff of trouble with it. At some point I will get my 6vs amp similarly upgraded but until then am having fun running it as a pre/power combo with my old Linn Intek (though that does mean I lose the Cyrus's bi-wiring capability - I haven't yet worked out which option I prefer).
