If you have been using the Amazon search engine, then it is quite unreliable. Try different combinations of the keywords. I thought many of the Albert Wolff recordings had disappeared, but they appear if the "album" name (eg Fete a la Francaise) is entered.

I'd welcome a re-mastering of the recordings of Beethoven piano sonatas made by Wilhelm Backhaus.

Is the Re-mastering of the Original Masters box not up to standard then?

There's a good two page round-up of recent Eloquence re-issues in the latest issue of IRR.

Just purchased the van Beinum Bruckner set on Eloquence out this week which I'm greatly looking forward to hearing. However, having to wait until Abbado commemorations are out of the way before playing.

                An interested reader has written:

"... people seem unaware of the Buywell (Australia) site, which has a separate section devoted to Decca Eloquence releases (and the opportunity to make suggestions for reissues). Their website displays UK prices too. This is not to distract from the info on Presto's site, but I suspect that the Buywell site is more comprehensive. Happy to provide a link in a PM, but easy enough for you to find if you think this info is worth adding to the thread."

                Is this it?

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

By the time you've added postage, the prices work out around the same between buying via Buywell and, say, Presto or MDT. Agree, though, that the ability to list by composer, conductor etc is very useful and it led me to finding some gems (Horst Stein's Sibelius, Kubelik's Janacek etc) which I've duly ordered for delivery to France. I suspect that I may end up paying duty but worth the try to see how quickly they'll arrive.

It may be more comprehensive, but the search engine is not very efficient - I typed in "Hogwood" and the results which came up were only just some of the Eloquence discs featuring the artist - so beware!

Prompted by this thread, I checked what I already had (two doubles, Wiener Oktett - Romantic Chamber Music and Kirsten Flagstad Lieder, both well worthwhile). I decided to add something new from their diverse range and came up with another song disc and have just ordered Oda Slobodskaya - great voice (and personality) and most of the songs there are new to me.

My CDs have eventually arrived from Oz - no duty to be paid and very securely packaged (I think the length of time might have been due to stock issues). Thrilling performance of the Lemminkainen Legends with the Helsinki Radio Symphony Orchestra and Okko Kamu - really well recorded. It must be well known but somehow it has passed me by in the last, err, 40 years. Well worth a punt:

I got the original (with a very blue-ish cover painting) Lemminkainen on an LP in 1977.
Indeed, DGG prime quality. And I also still have the cassette tape. Very listenable it still is too.

Roehre: I can match the LP, much treasured, but not the cassette

To other posters above, thanks for the reminder about Buywell. Have dived in for the Van Beinum Bruckner 5/7/8/9 set. Contrary to postings above re Presto and MDT, I think Oz should work out significantly cheaper at $34.47 inc postage (Amazon £22.07) - but still subject to credit card conversion rates of course
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
