Just found Dudamel doing Mahler 1 - thInk it is from the LAPO inaugural concert. Sounds lovely, with some very unusual touches. He almost gets the sleazy trumpet sound which Kubelik used to do too! This sounds in a completely different league to me from the performances of other pieces which they brought to the UK recently, which I found disappointing. Very good. Do you agree?

I do have to comment that I found the impetus in Dudamel's performance flagging slightly by movement 4. It was enjoyable, but not quite so distinctive as the earlier movements.
Having found some comments by Tom Service about Abbado's Mahler 1, I tried listening to the last movement in his recorded performance - which does seem to be excellent.
I stand by what I wrote about the earlier movements in Dudamel's LAPO concert though.
