Saucer of milk for Mr S !!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Simple. Squeezebox server and squeezelite. I use this. Runs on and old PC, plugs into my DAC via USB. Not a technical challenge.

                  No it is not
                  A CD contains data
A CD is a plastic object

The data and the object are not the same thing at all

Squeezebox server (logitech media server) has a very nice ipad app for "control" and there are android apps too.

I think an iPad would be fine in that environment. It's easy to wipe clean.

We'll, you won't really know until you've tried.

Out of interest, I wandered into Gramex this afternoon, and there was a young lady there asking for advice. She wanted to know where to go to buy what she called a gramophone, as a gift for a friend. She claimed quite genuinely that her friend wanted to be able to play LPs, but she herself had never seen one!
The owner pointed to a heap on the floor !

But was she offered a cheery cuppa as well?

Probably because no amount of hype will convince thinking people to download stuff just to make it easier and cheaper for those who try to control our spending.
