My stand-out disc of the year is the BIS SACD of Wilhelm Stenhammar's string quartets 5 and 6 by the eponymous Stenhammar Quartet. I love this music and I can't imagine either the performances or the recording being bettered. The disc also includes his unnumbered string quartet in F minor of 1897, which was withdrawn immediately following its first performance.

If anyone wants further proof of Stenhammar's worth, do try the Serenade or the 2nd Symphony.

I do like what Edward Gardner is doing on Chandos. I have his Lutoslawski series and his britten, the concerti album.
