Let's hope I get M. 'sacoches d'argent' Vinteuil in this year's inaugural Secret Santa.

    How does it go?

Many thanks for finding this, Hafod, as I wasn't aware of its existence. There is a new Haebler Schubert box available for £21.84 via the Marketplace: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Schubert-Pia...ingrid+haebler

There is also a Denon box set of Mozart stuff - her second cycle - which can be had for around £35. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mozart-Piano...haebler+mozart

Haebler is a new discovery for me, but an increasingly vital one. I simply love her playing. I now have her Mozat Violin Sonatas w. Szeryng on two s/h Philips Duo discs.

My Feldman craze continues ...... Coptic Light consumed me ....... now Crippled Symmetry seems to be doing the same ....... it all seems to be leading inexorably to the String Quartet

By which I take it you mean the Second. Do make it the Flux you listen to, rather than the Ives Ensemble.

The Decca Brahms symphonies, Leipzig/Chailly set. Can't stop playing it.

The live performance of symphony No 2 by Chailly and the Leipzig orchestra last week at the Barbican was superb. Let's hope tonight's performance of symphony No 4 will be as good.

And if, as I did, you order from the tax dodgers, you get your bonus mp3s of the set straight away. I wonder if the will provide complementary mp3s of the RCO Anthology when that's released in a month's time?

Yes, this has proved a rather persuasive selling point. It can then be disappointing when files dont enter the download queue as with the recent Decca Rachmaninov Piano Trios.

What is Maestro Chailly's attitude to the Repeats in the Brahms Symphonies?

I had wondered if it was a personal affliction, and am pleased to learn it is not. I often find that having listened to one particular perfomance on record, i have an urge/need/desire/compulsion to listen to every recording I own. A few days ago, prompted by the performance thread, I listened to Askenazy's recent RFH performance of the Manfred symphony. I have subsequently played it again, twice more, before moving on to Rostropovich, Markevich, Previn, Silvestri, Toscanini, Sinaisky, Goossens and Svetlanov before I even embark on a serious search in the more recondite areas of my collection. Plus there will be plenty of boarders who will wonder how I can manage without XXX's astonishing traversal. Please, please, refrain from telling me. Well, alright, tell me but don't expect me to buy it. Not just yet anyway.

                            - They murmured, as they took their fees,
                            - "there is no cure for this disease"

All French music for me now (yet again...when R3 concerts don't distract) so it's Magnard, Roussel, Poulenc... I've never yet heard Padmavati, so that's the next treat once I've recovered from an exhausting week. Lack of sunlight isn't much help, hibernation looks most attractive - if it weren't for music...
