    Customer services and complaints.

Dave2002 made an observation that when something goes a bit TU with a purchase that a number of members have subscribed to the bargains thread gets a bit clogged with the fallout. Although I have no real beef at the moment I thought that a thread for these discussions would keep the decks clear on the bargains thread and we could vent our spleens fully and to our hearts content here, perhaps..............

Thanks for this - let's see how it goes. Judicious cross posting should work.
I've got no complaints re CD or book suppliers right now either, but don't get me on to solicitors or conservatory firms!

Still waiting for the Krauss Ring ordered at the incredible bargain price of £11.29. E-mail from Amazon to say 'temporarily out of stock' which it wasn't when ordered.

I bought a 10 CD Toscanini set on the Membran label for 12 euros in Vienna. Only 4 of the discs tracked without issue. Think I will avoid this label in the future.

I've bought several Membran issues in recent years and have never had any problem with them. What problems are you getting?

Hey, Pet. Many of the discs won't track. However, I've only tried them on 1 player, which I use in my office at work. You've had good luck with this label, then?
The American Critics are pretty dismissive of Membran, but the Toscanini collection had many recordings that I don't have and it was pretty cheap. I'll bring the set home and try it on the main rig.

I've had a number of Membran boxes. The audio quality is often not good, but I've not had a problem actually playing the discs.
If you can rip them to your hard drive you only have to play them successfully once.

I wonder if "in Vienna" is significant. I purchased a couple of cheap Membran boxes in Vienna a few years back and my car CD player used to really struggle with them. Membran material I've purchased from Amazon has been fine.

I successfully ripped the Membran set to my hard drive and have been enjoying it immensely. This 10 disc Toscanini features many recordings that I was unfamiliar with; I my collection had been limited to his last Beethoven set with NBC, and this set is devoted primarily to other composers. Whatever one can say about Toscanini, he was never boring or routine.

                        ……or perhaps not.
