No, the LMPs aren't moving house!

I was inspired to start this thread by a letter in this month's BBC MM denouncing a CD of flute duettists twittering Mozart opera 'highlights'. The writer suggests that the only possible use for it is to clear the house of overstaying dinner-guests.

I keep one disc for this very purpose. It was given to me as an office 'joke' Christmas present and is entitled "Mr Blobby". Those with children of a certain age may well recall it. And shudder

Any other recommendations for music(?) to speed loath-to-depart guests into their cars??

I like Willie Rushton's suggestion for getting rid of guests who wont go home. You disappear upstairs and reappear with an armful of bedclothes which you dump in the middle of the floor. You then walk round the room picking up the cushions one by one, sniffing them and muttering "bloody cat".

If that doesnt appeal, I've got a couple of LPs of music by Varese and Xenakis that are less than melodious to most ears.

I remember the trick used by a musician friend. I think it's called 'frogging' You lean forward in your chair, half rise and say 'Well'. Apparently it nearly always works.

... no. What most people cannot abide is - silence. It is the increasing silence of those who want the event to end that brings things to a close.

(Mind you, my pa was not averse to going round the rooms ostentatiously winding up clocks when he thought it was time for people to go.)

A good system was that adopted by certain university spouses when sending invitations to callow undergraduates for tea :

"Professor and Dr X will be delighted to see Mr Vinteuil for tea in their rooms at 4:30pm. They will be equally delighted to see him depart by 6pm."
