Well, I bought it and I'm listening to it and I like it. In a more general sense I do find it an odd way to play Bach, but I guess expecting a veteran jazz pianist to immerse him/herself in the world of historically-informed performance is a big ask, and what I do hear is the sense of engagement and joy with which this particular pianist approaches this material. The violinist is pretty good too! but the recording puts her too far forward, given that the pieces are really an extension of the "trio sonata" approach of having two equal voices (in this case violin and piano right hand) accompanied by a basso continuo.

I haven't bought the CD but have downloaded Sonata No.3 which was the track played by SMP............like Richard B I find his playing full of "engagement and joy" and I listen to it most days.
I am usually completely naff at identifying artists but there is something about Jarrett.....................................
