    Jarrett Crosses the Line Again

I must admit to listening to Breakfast on Tuesday and heard this as the highest new entry in the dreaded charts.....at No.2.

I think SMP said it was Keith Jarrett's first classical CD for 15(?) years but the short extract played really impressed me but then I don't know the pieces.........

    Any advice/comments?

Amazon reviews seem to be good - but it's a lot of money to pay if you don't like it.

Persuade one of your mates to buy it and borrow it from them for a listen?

I'm not a big fan of the violin Sonatas. I frequently listen to the solo Sonatas and Partitas but the duo Sonatas always sound like sewing machine baroque to me...

If your not too sure, Mischa Maisky and Martha Argerich have recorded the Viola da Gamba Sonatas, on cello and piano respectively and very good it sounds too. I thought I mention this as it would give you some idea and cheap as well!

I totally agree with BBM on this one. I have had this recording for years and am very happy with it. I am a fan of Jarrett for Jazz but have not really gotten into his classical recordings.

Jarrett was on the much praised Breakfast show this morning playing Gershwin ........

Don't catch the breakfast show at the weekend Anton, but sounds interesting. I now have Jarrett's Somewhere. I am still getting into it, I think. I did have a blast of Koln this afternoon though - classic.

Will keep listening to the weekday Breakfast - can't text whilst driving though!

Oh that's what it was. Thought the old radio was on the blink again.

i have always enjoyed a double cd on Erato of Torteleir and Robert Veyron-Lacroix playing the Bach Gamba on cello and Vivaldi 6 Sonatas for cello and harpsichord

it now seems to be completely out of print

My very thoughts. Of course Baroque music used often to be played in that way, maybe that's what was meant. I heard a bit of that Makarski/Jarrett recording when it was played on the radio and thought it rather attractive, however against the grain the instruments and playing style are for me. I thought there was probably something to be gained from listening to the whole set. (Not meaning to damn with faint praise! but I'd bneed more than an excerpt to help me make my mind up)
