    Rachmaninov. Eludes-tableaux(orch. Resphigi)

Oh my goodness! I bought a cd in a charity shop yesterday of Rachmaninov's first symphony played by the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tadaaki Otaka. (Nimbus). The Etudes-tableaux are 'fillers'. What wonderful pieces.

    Does anyone know other recordings?

    Thanks.

Allmusic shows that there are/were at least 7 recordings of these Rachmaninov-Respighis

I have only one version, a 1974 EMI LP with the New Philharmonia cond. Yuri Krasnapolsky. Ages since I played it, but I seem to recall being impressed.

Respighi was a terrific arranger and it does not surprise me in the least that these are good, as well. Strongly recommend the Chandos cd of his Bach transcription of the Passacaglia and Fugue.

Strongly recommend his Boutique Fantasque; 20th century take on Rossini with added technicolour.
