    Bogus Amazon Message?

I had a strange e-mail this morning purporting to be from Amazon and relating to delivery of an order I placed on Sept 25. I didn't place an order that day (but did the day before and goods have arrived for that). The order reference doesn't relate to that order and I'm invited to click on a zip folder. It is headed as 'auto-confirmation1216@amazon.co.uk'. It carries the Amazon heading, carries my name and looks genuine. I should add that I've never had anything suspicious from Amazon before.

I think it is bogus, haven't opened it and think others should be warned. Anyone else had anything similar?

That 1216 before the @ looks very suspicious. I have never seen a set of digits between auto-confirmation and the @amazon.co.uk in a genuine communication from amazon.co.uk.

I received a similar email from the same address and assumed it was spam because it looked so different from Amazon messages. I do have orders pending, but am receiving 'normal' looking messages on them. This is a bit unnerving as I do have regular communication from Amazon, unlike most spam I get!

Anything that looks suspecious and asks you to click on a link or file is best avoided.....

I've bought a lot from Amazon and have never had a message like that.

(A quick check in the orders part of "My account" on Amazon should tell you if any action is genuinely required.)

Delete it and empty your 'trash' folder. Without doubt.

Sound advice Would it be worth alerting Amazon to what's going on too?

Here's the main bit: forward it to stop-spoofing@amazon.com

My auto-confirmations from Amazon, like Paypal, contain my name. Anything that doesn't - especially if there is a link or file is 99% certainly spam. Find out the spam/abuse address for the company involved and forward it to them
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                            Petrushka,

check your Amazon account as you normally would do. If there is something you should know according to Amazon, you'll find it there too.

as your Amazon-account likely doesn't mention anything related to the email you received, as visualnickmos writes: delete it immediately and empty your trashbin..

Yes, it's a hoax email. Had one today as well.
                              Wonder if Amazon UK knows?
