    Thanks CoCo....Cellohog day !!

(don't mind me, end of a difficult month at work !!)

    That Xenakis is terrific.

As no doubt is the JLW record.

I shouldn't worry about Off Topic digressions, coco - this Thread isn't 24hrs old yet and it's already attracted nearly [EDIT: "more than"] 90 replies, which is more than some Threads get in a week. As for the CD, it's a bit too "bitty" for me, if that makes sense: even at NAXOS prices, it's not the sort of programme I buy. (Nothing to do with JLlW; I enjoy his recording of the Rachmaninoff & Debussy 'cello Sonatas on ASV, and his RCA Bridge/Holst/Delius triple bill.)

Fair enough. I like the Rachmaninov, too. Heard one Rachmaninov sonata he played live with a very talented pianist, Rebeca Omordia.

Ok we can't have Cellofest without Zoe

"Tone" is part of the initial creative process of "Split", a documentary opera monologue by composer Line Tjørnhøj in collaboration with cellist Zoë Martlew ...

I don't mind the occasional off topic digressions, but they can put off people that have just dipped into this thread. If you want to discuss more moderny stuff, why not starting a new thread on Lachenmann and company, theremin ensembles, even terrapins if you like, and leave this thread to those forum users (and there are many, I am sure) that actually want to discuss JLW's new CD and his other works?

It certainly hasn't put me off, but on the contrary, shown a wonderful continuity between the old and the new - as exemplified in the variety of musical styles and periods represented on the CD which was the topic sparking discussion on this thread.

Fair comment, but please can we leave any bickering out?

(I didn't want to go OT by mentioning them. But the thought occurs that if nobody went OT on this forum, the pickings would be very slim. With apologies to the OP............great thread !! )

We could talk about cello repertoire generally. I don't think there's been a threads about this at all? Where's coco?
