A Tale of Two Cellos, Julian Lloyd Webber's new CD, out Monday 30th September, has topped two Amazon charts after only two days from its release! 21 arrangements for two cellos and piano/harp (4 cellos in the case of the Holst!) with Julian Lloyd Webber and his wife and fellow cellist Jiaxin, pianist John Lenehan, harpist Catrin Finch and former BBC Young Musician of the Year cellists Guy Johnston and Laura Van der Heijden.
From Monteverdi to Arvo Part, also Schumann, Saint Saens, Holst, Piazzolla and many more, what a collection!!! A true gem to add to any music library.

I like original versions and arrangements, it really depends!
One of my favourite cello CD is Yo Yo Ma plays Morricone, not original versions but brilliant arrangements for cello with the composer himself conducting.

I think (and I haven't listened to the new CD) is maybe that Yo Yo Ma is a rather good cellist and an interesting musicians whereas ALW is ..........hummmmmm (confused ? )

If JLW (not Jayne) is not a good cellist, how come he has been performing live for over 40 years, has premiered countless pieces for cello, had works written for him (Rodrigo, ALW, Whitacre, just to mention a few) and his 1985 recording of the Elgar cello concerto conducted by Sir Yehudi Menuhin was chosen by Gramophone as "finest ever" and won the Best Classic recording of the year?!

I find his playing wooden and predictable.
I'm not sure that getting your brother or the phenomenon that is Eric Whitacre to write you a piece is a measure of
anything wonderful ?

His ignorant pontificating about music education has also done much damage so i'm not inclined to be a fan
BUT it's fine by me if you like his playing
