And then of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. I heard a DJ there greet him with "G'daydo Edo!"
and the Minnesota in between as well as the Dutch Hilversum Radio Philharmonisch (essentially the Concertgebouw spare orchestra , Haitink's orchestra before his appointment at the Concertgebouw orchestra)
Does the number (and enthusiasm) of the responses suggest that EvB is far from forgotten?
I would like to think it does, Alain.
Since posting originally, I have picked the very well-recorded Bruckner 4 (June 1952) and the newly-discovered (long thought lost) broadcast of his wonderfully atmospheric Mahler 7 (June 4th 1958). Terrific additions to the van Beinum library and they are to be had for pocket money prices!
Karafan.

Karafan - where did you source the Mahler 7? I couldn't see it on Amazon UK.
BTW His Bruckner 8 finale just came up via shuffle-play on my iPod. It's very swift and no-nonsense (under 21 minutes!).
At least two of us here have its content (minus the DVD) in the newly released 152 disc RCO Radio Archive boxes. The content of the DVD may be found on YouTube:
At least, I think it's the same performance.
[I have yet to get round to listening to any of the Beinum discs in the box 1 of the Archive set.]

I see that AmazonUk has knocked a whopping £110 off the RCO Archive box which is now £405.76 - still too much of a mortgage job for me.
At around £2.66 a disc, I reckon that quite a bargain. That's less than half the rate of the separate boxes, when you can find them.
Can't fault your analysis. And if I looked at what I spend per annum on CDs it would be quite a bit more. But at an emotional level I can't imagine spending £400+ on CDs in one go. It just feels wrong!
