I thought so too. Hyperion are usually quick but I can't see how anyone could actually be faster than ICA have been here. I had excellent email communications with them too.

One thing that puts me off the various live Boult E1s is the fast tempo he takes for the Adagio - here barely 9 minutes. Not sure about Elgar's timing, but even Solti takes well over 12, and a few recordings I like take 14. I wonder why he did it like that...

Boult takes about 9'20". Elgar (in a recording studio) took about 1 minute longer. Almost everyone else takes longer than both. Boult's EMI recording of about the same time takes almost 11 minutes. Yet it doesn't seem fast to me (I was there on that night and was not struck by the speed). Boult's speeds are just so well sprung that it all flows naturally (note the way that he doesn't allow the tension to drop between the last two movements.

That Adagio doesn't seem in the slightest bit rushed in the context of that performance . I was thinking when listening to the Larghetto of this recording , how different it is from Barbirolli's 1960s account yet how they are both so convincing on their own terms.

Amazon are selling the 10disc "Adrian Boult, The Complete Conductor ' box for £28.99, the trouble is that as usual the contents are not listed.
Has anybody bought this ? I already have a big selection of Boult recordings, so it would be nice to know what this set contains.

Presto have the listing as well as a cheaper price. Looks like a winner to me.
