Not really. I'm no particular Liszt enthusiast, as such, but the Howard survey has had such prominence over the past few years among those who are, that for an avowed Liszt enthusiast not to have made him/herself familiar with that survey seemed to to me be at variance with such enthusiasm.

The Sony Liszt box arrived the other day. Wow, what a smörgåsbord of approaches to playing Liszt is to be found therein.

Yes my copy of the Sony set arrived a few days ago. I agree - smörgåsbord is the right word. But, I think, a good and ridiculously cheap introduction to a Liszt newbie such as myself.

Absolutely! I note the amazon.co.uk marketplace prices now start closer to £20 including p&p, but still very much a bargain, and you get both Van Cliburn/Ormandy and Casadesus/Szell in the Second Concerto.

At the time I did not really contemplate the full 99 disc box but as a sample I went for volumes 32 and 33 - 6 discs of Schubert Lieder transcriptions - which were well discounted as a download. I really enjoy them. Some discounted downloads are still available on the Hyperion site.
