This arrived today after Andrew McGregor's enthusiastic review on Saturday .
This is a wonderful record of what must have been a sensational debut for the two soloists.
Du Pre plays the Schumann with great freshness and there is an interesting cadenza in the finale . The slow movement is exquisite .
The Brahms 1 is in the same exalted league . Gelber has had a successful career it seems even if he has not made the number of recordings one might expect for someone of such talent .
This is not the most barnstorming performance but there is no want of power but it is in one of the most poetic I have heard . I have played both concertos twice and they seemed even better second time round .
Very strongly recommended .
