And very worth listening to. What a shame he did not conduct more.

Amazing - had no idea that any such recording might exist. Many thanks, BQ.

Mind-boggling nugget that, BQ Thanks so much. Despite the noise, the interpretation's fresh as paint isn't it!

I had no idea that such a performance existed, B'sQ: thanks very much - such a remarkable performance with its attention to inner voices and flexibility with Tempi. Such a pity it was recorded in a Chip Shop, but that's the case with so many recordings in which Arnie was involved.

              Best Wishes.

AS was indeed a most remarkable conductor. There's a most glowing published review of his conducting the UK première of Gurrelieder in London in the mid-1920s; its author, the composer Sorabji, much later told me that, in his view, had AS chosen a conducting career, his international reputation would easily have attained at least the level of that of Toscanini.

I am highly delighted with the 2008 dramatic live account of the Mahler Symphony No.1 played by the wonderful Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on the Exton label EXCL-00026. Music director Manfred Honeck is achieving marvellous things with this orchestra.

I hope that this suggestion isn't too cutting edge but ... any chance of a link to some of these reviews, please

Listening to Pappano's Mahler 6 tonight - the first movement is dazzling quite the most thrilling I have heard in a very long while .

Yes, I have only listened to (i) and (ii) but Mahlerei's outright dismissal of the Pappano elsewhere is not certainly my reaction.
