    Aww Alison!

In a nutshell, I think Bavouzet is great in the G major but lacking substance in the left-hand; whereas the Aimard/Boulez was conversely fab in the left-hand but didn't work in the G major...

I confess I never fed back to IGI on the Dutoit Scheherazade

But then I haven't listened to it yet ...

Which would be a fair enough reason, I suppose...

Just listened to it - must admit I found the first movement a bit underpowered but the rest of the performance I thought was terrific especially the finale which unlike in some performances did not go on a moment too long .

I have been playing this again and I now blame my original view on the first movement to the equipment I was playing it on which was in my study rather than my main system . It is a stunning performance - listening to the VPO/Mehta a couple of days after it seemed very flabby in comparison.

Yes, good call Barbs, a truly wonderful rendition of the Resurrection.

Come on Caliban, the Proms are over now !

Blu-rays of Chailly's M2 and M8 from this year's Leipzig Mahlerfest available for pre-order. Never really 'got' his way with Mahler so perhaps I should try again.

There's a 'new' recording of Mahler 3 from Tennstedt and the LPO in the excellent ICA label. It's a live performance from October 1986. I haven't heard it yet but wonder if anyone on here has done.

We only need a live Mahler 4 & 9 from Tennstedt to make the set. Does anyone know if live LPO broadcasts of these exist?

It is featured in tomorrow's CD Review along with the recent issues from Pittsburgh and Bamberg.

I would urge you - hugely - to try these. I recorded the M8 when I was broadcast (or Arte, I think) and I'm very glad I did - it is utterly different from his Amsterdam record - and light years better. The M2 is pretty terrific too, but if you only want to try one, go for the 8th. I hope you'll love it.

Thanks for that; I have the M2 on order and should get it next week. For some reason I could never engage with his Amsterdam Mahler, so this 'different' approach sound very promising. Looks like I shall have to get the M8 as well [credit card squeaks with alarm].

Hmm, wish I could agree. Taken in toto it doesn't work for me, whereas his M2 strikes me as one of the most compelling of recent years.
