I saw Brendel playing Schubert piano solo music a few years ago. Lovely.

Indeed , totally unflashy but such a musically interesting player . My attention never wandered at his concerts.

Going back to this box this week I have been particularly struck again by the first disc - the sizzling Reiner Tchaikovsky 1 from 1955 and a very beautiful and poetic Chopin 1 with Ormandy . The latter is now one of my favourite recordings of this concerto with the Pollini/Kletzki and Argerich .
