It occurs to me that the answer is probably: Any music to which I have not been introduced by someone who loves it.

I sometimes wonder about the value in reviving threads which are old, in this case almost eight years old, except that it may be interesting to see whether our views are the same now! It actually predates my board life so I cannot check my own. Do our preferences and biases change very much?

In the case of Bruckner (this week's COTW) I cannot say any more that I hate his music, but, having given it a third or fourth chance this week, I do still find it largely otiose and boring. Otherwise I'm nowadays finding my tastes more and more reverting to middle-of-the-road musics and composers, which in part may have something to do with ageing, as well as looking back to when times seemed more secure and the cutting edge shone its beam of light into a better future which still seemed in prospect.

I withdraw my comments re. Verdi . I have enjoyed his work at times.

There's a very broad genre of music called 'crap pop' and I hate all of it.

Seriously - some of the stuff that Millennials listen to is so offensive is in its arid blandness that I feel I have to put as much space as I can between myself and it when I get wind of it. It's quite beyond me how anyone can like stuff like 'Ed Sheeran' for instance.

...and we’ve had over 30 years of it! Singing too high and warbling around notes instead of hitting them and with very poor diction, usually a not very good song with poor lyrics.
Occasionally there is a good singer/band/song and it is a breath of fresh air!

                        I know what you mean
just listen to the lyrics in this nonsense

This exciting performance of the "Demons Chorus" from Elgar's 'The Dream of Gerontius' comes from a live performance of the oratorio given in 2008. Vladimir ...

total crap which ruins what would be an interesting piece of music

But I agree about Ed Sheeran who seems to have infested the country.
Though, my daughter, who has a much more prestigious music degree than I do (and a higher one as well) is a great enthusiast....

Were Gerontius a pop song it would definitely come into the " great tune shame about the lyrics" category....

I still think Oasis are the worst band ever to emerge from Britain. To my ears, their music is utterly appalling and without redeeming feature.

...and a poor copy of the Lennon side of the Beatles - and what an ignorant, ill-mannered pair of brothers!

Not even. Neil Innes (of the Bonzo Dog Band the Rutles parody group) successfully sued them for theft!
