    Fiftieth anniversary of his death in Liverpool next month but still no sign of a Kletzki box from Warner - very annoying when so many of his recordings are not even available to download any more.

      I grew up with - and still love - his Mahler 4. How do you Mahler-heads rate it now?

        Still close to the top of the tree I think and Emmy Loose close to ideal in the finale.

          Despite the letter in the Gramophone still no sign of a Kletzki box. For Kletzki fans I can recommend a recording on Audite of Brahms 4 Schubert 8 and Leonore No 3 from a Swiss Festival concert in 1946 - the Schubert the highlight the Brahms gets a bit wild in the finale but still much pleasure and a very classy Leonore No3 .

            There has, of course , been an IntenseMedia 10-CD set which I don't think has been mentioned here so far, including some of his Columbia recordings:

            Sibelius 1,2 &3 with the Philharmonia;
            Mahler 9 and Verklaerte Nacht with the Israel phil;
            Brahms, 3, Tchaik 6 and Manfred, etc.

              Scruffy remastering though . It’s a scandal that Warner just sits on most of his recorded legacy not even releasing it to download.

                An apparently Chinese label Janus Classics have released a number of rare Kletzki recordings - far from cheaply - but the Tchaikovsky 4 has a good booklet - and a live Bruckner 7 in association with BR Klassik.

                The Tchaikovsky 4 is terrific except for a rather bizarre and wild acceleration in the finale which grated on me somewhat. Still great stuff in the round.

                  Listening to his Beethoven Fourth with the Czech PO now. I love the sound of the orchestra and Kletzki delineation of textures particularly in II

                    It’s a much underrated cycle.

                      Very positive reviews from RC on the Kletzki Tchaikovsky 4 and the Beethoven recordings of 1,3 and 5 on this Janus label . At £16.50 they are not cheap .

                      Every month when I see Warner issue another recycled box set or a set from a rather more esoteric conductor or performer than Kletzki it makes me gnash my teeth . Of his EMI recordings ( not including as an accompanist) only the Schumann symphonies are available on a Warner CD only his Mahler 4, Das lied and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for strings as a download . Everything else is unavailable

                        Has the IntenseMedia 10CD set been deleted? It had some treasures for the Kletzki fan .

                          Download only I think . Apart from the Sibelius 2 , which I see is about to be a download on Urania nothing much on there that wasn’t available on other downloads etc.

                          What is needed is a proper box from Warner . So much missing treasure - the early Midsummer Night’s Dream , Scheherazade and Tsar Saltan ,Pathetique , Berlioz Overtures , Borodin 2 , Mahler 4 and Das Lied,Schubert 8 and the Rosamunde music , Sibelius 1-3 etc etc .
