Has anyone else listened to Vilde Frang's Sibelius concerto CD? Seems pretty good to me, and I'm tempted to buy it, even at above rock bottom prices. Vivace Classical have it for £7 untll later this year. I suppose I should compare it with other versions - such as Kyung Wha Chung's with Previn, which I have long held in high regard, or Nigel Kennedy's, or Leonidas Kavakos's. Meybe even Oistrakh or Neveu! Are there other versions of this concerto which are held in affection around here?

... I'm even fond of Hahn's icy, penetrating detachment with Salonen and the Swedish Radio SO; by no means a "first choice", but as an alternative reading it works remarkably well.
(Years since I last heard Neveau* or Chung - both excellent, too.)

Oh yes...,
1) Ida Haendel with Paavo Berglund and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra on EMI.
2) Ida Haendel with Sir Simon of Rattle and the CBSO.
3) Ida Haendel with Neumann and the Czech Philharmonic.
There are other rosin jockeys out there who do their best to struggle through it but DO NOT settle for third best!
Did I mention that the soloist in each case is Ida Haendel?Comment

I'm astonished to find that I can be original by mentioning Heifetz/Walter Hendl for mainstream and Kulenkampff/Furtwangler for left field.
I think there's also a Heifetz/Beecham recording but I haven't heard it

Yes a good word should be put in for the Mutter - always handicapped by its rather mean coupling when first released.
I do not have the Frang - but I was very taken with her Nielsen and Tchaikovsky record .Comment

PG Dame ida's Czech live recording is with Ancerl not Neumann - unless tantalisingly there is another out there .
