My resolution not to buy another Mahler Symphony cycle lasted about 3 weeks and I am currently working my way through this cycle. It scores a bit in completeness over the Abbado/Lucerne Festival Blu Ray set in that it has recordings of 10 and Das Lied. There are different conductors for each work, which may or may not be a bonus.
So far i've listened to the Inbal 10, the Jansons Resurrection, and Maazel/6 and Harding/1. The Inbal is a treat, similar to his Frankfurt recording of 3 decades ago but much more focused and with better playing and sound. The Maazel I didn't care for at all; to much LM, not enough GM. Hardings 1 is a decent account, but I dislike his use of the full double bass section at the start of III. The Resurrection is a pleasant surprise, as I am not a fan of the Conductor, but this is generally well played and appropriately dramatic.
