I ordered that Dresden Elgar 1 - on first hearing I am rather disappointed - it is a bit noisy and bombastic for my tastes . Perhaps I have been listening to the King's Lynn Barbirolli too often recently . The Berlioz overtures are dynamite though. He must surely be the greatest Berlioz conductor in recorded history .
Picked up his Cgebouw new World for a song at the same time - now that is a lovely, songful fresh performance and what playing !

I couldn't agree more with your comment, he had command of this piece, the closing stages were delivered with sure control, it felt absolutely right. Memories to be treasured. (A sharp contrast to some other performances I have experienced!)."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
