What CD's do you hope to play this Eastertide ??

It seems a good time to unwrap my Barbirolli 'Gerontius' bought some time ago [for Janet Baker]

I'm so fond of my old Sargent/Heddle Nash and Sargent/Richard Lewis recordings that I have not bothered with this so far.

What do you hope to play ?

    New arrivals:

James Ehnes - Bach's Violin Sonatas and Partitas.
Pires - Mozart's Piano Sonatas (Brilliant release of her first cycle on Denon)

Not very holy. More numinous, or, to borrow Einstein's phrase, inducing a 'cosmic religious feeling'.

If I'm feeling dutiful, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater might get an outing - the Mingardo/Alessandrini version.
It loved to happen. -- Marcus Aurelius

I'm reminded of his rehearsal comment to the choir during the Demons' Chorus: "You are not bank clerks on a Sunday outing; you’re souls sizzling in hell".

        François Couperin, Leçons de ténèbres

        Heinrich Biber, Die Rosenkranz-Sonaten

        J. S. Bach, Easter Oratorio

gone off the idea of Parsifal

... and non-Easter specific music, including Peter Maxwell Davies's Ave Maris Stella because I've just managed to locate my CD after looking in several wrong places for a week!

am hoping my Strauss "Four Last songs" Belin phil/ Karajan turns up tomorrow morning....and a couple of David Diamond Symphonies.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I have a small pile of unopened packages on the kitchen table which should consist of the recent Howard Shelley Mendelssohn and Imogen Cooper Schumann discs. A couple of good reviews and a splendid retro cover steered me to Joshua Bell's Beethoven Symphonies 4 and 7. Slightly surprised I bought that.

From the back catalogue I fancy taking out some Lyrita stuff, maybe Rubrra and Holst.

If I really am to fit in Parsifal too that should keep me going.

            Happy Easter one and all.

A really wonderful piece that I've only ever heard live... played on various occasions by Endymion.

              Is there a recommendable recording?

I plan to be away for a few days but will have JEG's Bach St John Passion on my MP3 player.
As soon as I get home I must listen to Barry Douglas in his new Brahms recita (vol2).

I shall certainly listen to Pires, Abbado and the Orchestra Mozart in Mozart's Piano Concerto K 595, and probably more from my Clara Haskil bumper box. Then there are a couple of intriguing Chandos discs of Atterberg and Montsalvatge to explore, Bax's Spring Fire is another possibility, with the Halle and Mark Elder.

The there's an amazing book called simply, Feather. You might not think that a long book all about the biology, evolution and cultural significance of the feather might be of much interest, but I'm engrossed.

                    That's my girl.

Not being a religious person it will be normal service for me,,plenty of British music and catching up with some of Suffolkcoastal's picks (that Shchedrin 2 yesterday was a blast).

Have a great weekend Alison and all forumistas.

It is a wonderful piece (I don't know much of his later music, but I think it's my favourite PMD). I have The Fires of London / the composer (Unicorn, so I guess deleted) and a Metier disc played by Gemini Ensemble. The latter I thought was fine when I last gave it a listen, so that might do the trick .

I've got the bumper EMI 14 CD Great Cathedral Organs, delivered earlier this week, to catch up on. Also plan to play Parsifal in Gatti's recent Met relay that has been sitting on my hard drive awaiting this weekend.

Piles of other stuff as well but there just won't be time.

If you want to do things properly and listen to Parsifal, there is a great performance on youtube here from Bayreuth 2012. HD quality, excellent sound and certainly the best performance I have ever seen. Grab it before it goes.
