A while ago the idea of a MB "Exchange /swap/sale " area was discussed, which might be useful for duplications.

Ah, you mean they should find out (and only reissue) those performances you don't already have... Now that's a level of personal service I would welcome! Seriously though, Barbirollians, I understand your frustration at seeing desirable reissues only available in large boxes. I suppose that's a penalty of being a "serious" collector - but isn't the hunt for such performances (in sales, charity shops, e-bay etc) part of the joy of collecting (and increases the pleasure when you eventually find it)?

Though frankly Jochum's Bruckner could have been safely left out of his icon box as it has been reissued so many times...
As it happens I have my eye on this box - I have very few of his recordings. For someone who only possesses one of the Dresden Bruckner symphonies (no.7) and none of his Beethoven or Brahms, would you recommend this set?

The Beethoven and Brahms are superb readings IMO . Well worth the outlay .

Seconded - Beethoven and Brahms both top quality. There's an excellent B minor Mass too, if you don't mind "big band" Bach.

Barbirollians and mb, thanks for the replies - what about the Bruckner, I like the Dresden 7th very much (wonderful playing), is the rest of the set equally good? If so, I think I will invest - it can be had for £28 currently at Presto, which looks like a terrific bargain to me.

If you like the 7th then you'll be happy. The 9th is a particular highlight. I don't think the Dresden 5th is as good as his BRSO and RCO (1986) recordings but the 8th is better than the DG/BPO version if not quite on the level of his 1949 DG/Hamburg.

The Beethoven and Brahms are for me ahead of his other sets on DG (both) and Philips (Beethoven).

Thanks mb, that's helpful - sounds like a winner, now I just have to work out how to order and take delivery without alerting swmbo.
