I am very much hoping that we will be able to put out the Solti Missa Solemnis. I know that Lady Valerie Solti is keen and it all depends on whether Universal let us as Solti was under exclusive contract to Decca at the time.

The Britten 'Our Hunting Fathers' was the Prom on 14th August 1979 and the rest of the programme was Mozart 41 which might come out some time and Nielsen Symphony No 5 which sadly I cannot find! We do not have the Haitink performance of the War Requiem, sadly. If anyone has a high quality tape of it please let me know! However, there is a wonderful Dvorak 7 .....

The Rozhdestvensky Shostakovich 8 is an amazing performance. The recording is a bit murky for the first ten minutes but sorts itself out and is fine for the rest. GR himself is delighted with it.

Jayne, I hope that we wil be putting 24 bit downloads soon....

I am very much hoping that we wil be putting out Strauss's Domestic Symphony with Zubin Mehta later this year - it was an electrifying performance and a great broadcast. Subject to consents, of course.

Over and out for the moment....

These were respectively Philips (I think) for the Liszt and Decca for the Shostakovich, but the live 10 on the LPO label is much more exciting than the studio release.

Both Berglund's Sibelius discs for me. I used to do a commute from my place of employment to where I lived at the time and it took EXACTLY the length of the 7th symphony. I have fond memories of belting down the M8 at 21.07 with that wonderful piece on at full volume!

The Nielsen 5 was dropped as Haitink didn't feel he'd had time to prepare it and replaced by Dvorak 7. The BBC archive has erroneously retained the original second half.

I was at that performance - outstanding!

Ah! I had forgotten that, no wonder I could not find it. I do, as I mentioned, have the Dvorak 7 but had not cottoned on to it being the same concert; my hopeless labelling, but then, of course, I never dreamt that one day any of these recordings might see the light of day as a commercial release!!

Laurie, all power to your arm in getting this released. For very strong personal reasons, the day of that concert, Sept 10 1982, was one of those days that proved amongst the most challenging I've had and the Beethoven was an unforgettable conclusion to it all. Solti and all the soloists signed my programme after the concert too. I will be thrilled beyond measure if this is released and greatly appreciate your efforts.

Are there any LPO/Boult tapes lying about crying out for release ? Well to us Boult fans anyway !

As has been said before, it's good that the LPO label accommodates archive material alongside the new stuff. I wonder if any orchestra has given me more pleasure over the seasons.

I will do what I can, especially in view of what you say! The regime at Universal is hopefully a bit more amenable than it was a couple of years back!

And in answer to Barbirollians, I do not have any but there may well be some around. Any good recording are always well received although the only reward is the pleasure of seeing them on release!

My copy arrived this morning and I played it tonight. Interesting that I noted in my diary for that night that it was 'an amazing performance'!!. It certainly was and this recording fully captures that. What a thrill hearing this again after 30 years! Strongly recommended to all whether you were there or not.

Incidentally, Rozhdestvensky signed my programme after that concert.
