William Alwyn SQ#3/String Trio/Rhapsody for piano Quartet.

    £10 total.
No idea if i have bargains or bloopers !!

lots to look forward to though !!
Apart from Ives 1 (which is in Mehta's cut version and consequently there are complete as well as better performances available) not much to remark negatively about those CDs, ts.
If this is your first Monteverdi, these madrigals are perfect to tip a toe into this repertoire.
The Alwyn shows you that he's a composer of much more importance than R3 credits him for by nearly only broadcasting his film music.

Thanks for your thoughts Roehre. I'll try to post a thought or two after a listen.

The Ives 1 is a shame, but still plenty to look forward to.
I do know some Monteverdi, though not these. Having a listen now....

If anybody at R3 doesn't take Alwyn seriously, they need to listen to Symphony #3.

Incidentally, record fairs must be heaven if you like Dylan/Hendrix/Stones/ Merseybeat.....

Still picked up a bargain or two in the rock sections.

      Favourite box was titled

Avant Garde/ Electro/That which has no name.

I would have called it MrGongGong corner.......

A bit short measuered (about forty minutes of Music?!) - and a strange but wondeful programme: the Schreker is a lovely work (creamy and gorgeous) a perfect antipode to Weill's lemon zest.
