    It is striking though how she remains the reference point in this concerto . Others cannot help but be influenced by her recording either in trying not to copy it like Weilerstein or in having a deliberately " classical " reaction to it like Watkins/Davis or most radically Tortelier and Boult - whose recording is , to my ears a terrible failure . When one listens to Tortelier with Sargent and Boult with Casals it seems impossible that they could have come up with such a dry , emotionally emaciated performance.
