Throps - from the last few responses lauding older versions - it seems I'm not the only Backwoodsman - but from the positive vibes I have ordered the Rattle from the grocer at £8-99 it looks a good buy.

I see the Kertesz is out on Eloquence . One for the wish list - I learned the Fourth from his recording on Decca Jubilee and very good it was too .

A great bargain at that price! I do urge anyone who hasn't already got it, and who isn't convinced that Brahms has to be stodgy, to buy this.

The original Berglund/COE issue cost me the best part of £25... never regretted it though. No excuse now for the fainthearts - snap it up!

I recall that the VPO Bernstein digital cycle was the first to appear on CD. I return to these performances often, and particularly admire no. 4.
These were very well recorded at a time when DG seemed to be struggling with the dawn of digital recording.

Well spotted !! This has been out of the catalogue for some time and is dearer than this as a download, so £2.50 per symphony makes it a true bargain..

The £3 shipping is a bit steep, though...

(or could I just be tight?)

No I agree but maybe we're spoilt by the River People and the Grocer!

The £3 is a maximum per order. Can't you find something else to tempt you to spread the cost, say Volume 7 of the RCO Anthology?
