    Marcelle Meyer

I recently downloaded, for an absurdly low price, a selection of Rameau keyboard suites played by Marcelle Meyer (from classicalmusicmobile). I did not know this music and I had not heard of Meyer but was entranced by both the music and the playing. Though of course on the piano, which will displease the purist, Meyer's playing was both elegant and delicate, yet with grandeur and drama where appropriate. I marvelled why Meyer was not better known (perhaps she is, but I cannot recall ever hearing her name on R3, including the old CD Masters) - on the evidence of this playing she does deserve to be.

Meyer gave first performances of some early C20 works, but seems to have been rather neglected by the musical establishment in France (not the first to suffer in that way). Here is a short biography:

    Full agreement here, aeolium

There's a big box from EMI France that does her proud and at a bargain price too, I see

Marcelle Meyer is wonderful, and I highly recommend the EMI box. Alexandre Tharaud sees her as one of the greatest French pianists, having fallen under her spell as a teenager.

I find her Rameau, Scarlatti, Couperin, and Bach delectable (even tho' I more usually a purist in this repertoire) - and her Ravel and Debussy is a joy.

... not at 320 so lo-ish fi but the sheer quantity [at that price] is a delight just hit play and leave it ...Meyer has a sensitivbe touch with Bach .... a fine score
