I am very glad to be reminded of that Cgebouw account of K 503 - it is a bit big band for many I am sure but delightful in every way , an inexorably unfolding first movement , a very beautiful and touching slow movement and a sparkling finale.

Read an Amazon review which excoriated a rather consumptive audience for K503. Any issues with audience noise, Barbs?

No - unless you are very sensitive to it I think it is acceptable . The coupling is pretty fine too but there are quite a few Argerich Beethoven 1s about .

                For committed Argerich-o-philes and other risk-takers ...

I have booked to see her in Manchester in JUly playing the Shostakovich 1 - fingers crossed she turns up.

As mentioned elsewhere she is now playing the Beethoven 1 . I see online that there is some suggestion she has recorded K466 and K503 with Abbado in Lucerne in May !

Indeed , she is unfortunately sometimes known to refuse to allow recordings to be released. I recall rumours that she recorded the Mendelssohn concertos for EMI with Dutoit but would not authorise them .

Or, perhaps a little more diplomatically, she sets herself very high standards. She wouldn't be the first - there are many fine recordings which never publicly see the light of day until, err .... the artist in question pops his or her clogs. Sir Clifford Curzon springs to mind - as does George Szell and that terrific Tchaikovsky 4 with the LSO. We're very lucky to have the many and various live recordings from Lugano with Martha Argerich as there are other artists - I almost typed 'artistes' - who would never have allowed live recordings of their performances to have appeared officially.
