Naive are taking the mickey here - 51 minutes of music and loads of room for Prokofiev 1 - Kyung Wha Chung and Previn's reisue includes all three in legendary performances .

        STRAVINSKY: Violin Concerto in D
PROKOFIEV: Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor Op. 63
Patricia Kopatchinskaja (violin), London Philharmonic Orchestra, Vladimir Jurowski (conductor)
        NAIVE V5352 (CD)
I saw Kopatchinskaja and Jurowski/LPO playing the Prokofiev at the Royal Festival Hall recently and if this recording is anything like as good I think it will be a winner.

I am rather allergic to her playing I am afraid . No comment on her undoubted talent but a matter of taste I suppose . I found those excerpts on CD Review fascinating but wearing .

I still think 50 minutes rather short playing time .

On a positive note this new Uchida Schumann Second Sonata is captivating !

Kopatchinskaya moves around when performing a fair bit, Barbs - crouching & swaying as I recall - I wonder if this is what you're picking up on?

The CD has been in my player to the virtual exclusion of all else for a couple of weeks now!

              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments

For those of us unable to listen live, I hope that the iplayer version will be available this week.
I did hear it, but found it very difficult to take in her opinions because of her bad verbal tic of saying 'kindof' every two or three words. After a few dozen of these I was mesmerised waiting for the next annoying occurrence.

...was planning to listen to it during a Sunday-morning lie-in. If I remember your post and notice the tendency, that might have to be junked in favour of a recording of 'Round the Horne' from Radio 4extra, which is at least intentionally ridiculous...

Sorry! I may indeed have skunked it for you.

One of my male musical friends was very disappointed when he saw Harriet Smith on YouTube. Think he'd fallen in love with her voice.

All I can say to that is beauty must be in the ear of the auditor.

What did AMcG have to say about Petrenko's Shostakovich 4 ?

He was very complimentary - sufficiently so to have me immediately download it from Qobuz. If not quite replacing Kondrashin (x3) and Raiskin in my affections, it is a very good addition to the catalogue. Excellent orchestral playing and a firm grasp of the overall structure of the work. I wish that Naxos (or someone else) might be persuaded to record VP in Elgar's 1st - another work where a firm grasp of where it's all going pays dividends and in which VP excelled when I heard him conduct it last year with the LSO.

Having recently been 'blown away' by a performance of this work by LSO/Haitink at the Barbican I'm in the market for another performance. I'd forgotten about Raiskin's performance so many thanks indeed HD

Does anyone know the Chicago SO/Haitink or Los Angeles PO/Salonen recordings?
